How to Become a Yoga Teacher in India: A General Roadmap
A general path for anyone serious about building a genuine teaching practice, not just collecting a certificate.
Step 1: Build a Consistent Personal Practice
Most reputable schools expect at least six to twelve months of regular practice before starting a foundational teacher training — you teach what you embody.
Step 2: Complete a Yoga Alliance Registered Foundational Training
This is the recognised global entry credential, typically opening the door to RYT 200 registration and studio teaching opportunities.
Step 3: Choose a Specialisation
Generalist teachers often compete on price; specialists — prenatal, hormone health, children's yoga, therapeutic yoga — tend to build more sustainable, in-demand teaching careers.
Step 4: Gain Real Teaching Experience
Assist senior teachers, offer community classes, and build confidence and feedback before positioning yourself as an expert.
