Ayurveda for Women's Hormonal Health

Ayurveda offers a lifestyle framework for hormonal health built around the three doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha — which can be a useful complementary lens alongside yoga practice and, where relevant, medical care.

Vata and Irregular Cycles

Excess Vata (air/space) is traditionally linked with anxiety, irregular cycles and dryness. Warming foods, oil massage (Abhyanga) and grounding daily routines are traditionally used to support balance.

Pitta and Inflammation

Excess Pitta (fire) is traditionally linked with inflammatory patterns such as those seen alongside endometriosis or heavy periods. Cooling foods and calming practice are traditionally recommended.

Kapha and Metabolic Patterns

Excess Kapha (earth/water) is traditionally linked with the insulin resistance and weight patterns often seen in PCOS. Stimulating, warming routines and lighter, spiced foods are traditionally used to help rebalance.

Daily Practices (Dinacharya)

Consistent wake times, oil massage, warm meals and seasonal eating — practised alongside yoga — form the foundation of an Ayurvedic approach to hormonal wellbeing.
