Introduction
Dealing with PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disorder) was an overwhelming challenge throughout my life. I faced irregular and painful periods that were often brushed off with the promise that they would normalize once I got married. But I was always curious—why were my periods not regular, and why was I feeling this way? This curiosity set me on a path of self-discovery, healing, and transformation.
My Struggle: Ignored Symptoms and Constant Questions
For years, I grappled with irregular and painful periods. Whenever I visited doctors, their assurance was the same— “It’ll be fine once you’re married.” But I couldn’t just wait around and watch my body suffer in silence. I knew deep down that there had to be an underlying issue that needed attention.
The Turning Point: Seeking Expert Help in Mumbai
While living in Mumbai, across the street from a well-known hospital, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I reached out to an endocrinologist to get answers. I was blessed to find a doctor who took my concerns seriously and provided me with honest, practical advice.
She explained that the core issue of my PCOD was rooted in excess fat and weight, which was disrupting my hormones. Rather than opting for medications that would only serve as a temporary solution, she suggested focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes. Her guidance was simple—get active, shed excess fat, and improve my diet.
The Diet Shift: A Small Change with Big Impact
With the help of a dietician, I received a structured diet chart. Surprisingly, my appetite was even smaller than the portions recommended! Realizing that dinner was an area that needed change, I switched to a very light evening meal, which turned out to be a game-changer for me. It was the first of many small but impactful changes.
Embracing Exercise: From Struggle to Strength
I decided to start running, but it wasn’t easy. In the beginning, I could barely run for 10 seconds without gasping for air. So, I took a more gradual approach, incorporating yoga into my routine to build stamina and flexibility. Yoga helped me connect with my body, and over the months, my endurance improved significantly.
Within three months, I lost around 8-9 kilos, and my confidence soared as I saw the positive effects on my health and energy levels. By the sixth month, I had achieved something I never thought possible—completing my first half marathon. By this time, I had lost a total of 17 kilos, and more importantly, my periods had begun to normalize.
Empowering Transformation: A Journey into Yoga and Wellness
Running and yoga were no longer just activities—they became my lifeline. The more I embraced a holistic lifestyle, the more I found myself drawn to helping others. Friends and colleagues noticed my transformation and began asking me for tips on fitness, diet, and well-being.
This encouragement inspired me to take a leap of faith. I decided to say goodbye to my stress-filled corporate life and step into the unknown to pursue yoga education and holistic wellness, something I had grown so passionate about.
Conclusion: From Healing Myself to Helping Others
My journey of healing from PCOD taught me that real change begins with curiosity and the courage to step out of your comfort zone. What started as a search to fix my health became a mission to help other women reconnect with their bodies and embrace holistic healing. Remember, small changes can lead to big transformations—physically, mentally, and spiritually.
